Dear Parents

We have started 2014 with a big bang as the Chinese New Year celebrations kick in early this year. Thank you to everyone for making it a joyous occasion with great performances and a fabulous pot-luck spread to start off the year of the Horse. Despite all the practice for the celebrations, lessons have been carrying on from the first week of the school term.

At Sri Ara, we stress on a well rounded education that encompasses and emphasizes, besides academic grades, character development, social responsibility and self-discipline.

Our calendar has been planned extensively and is packed with events throughout the year that will ensure all these aspects are covered. Taking part in all the activities planned will ensure that your child will develop into a young man or woman who will step into his or her future equipped with confidence and the necessary soft skills that will help them take on whatever comes their way in the rapidly changing world around us today.

ECAs & ECA forms

The response from the ECA list is overwhelming and we hope this enthusiasm will continue until the end of the ECA period. For those who have not returned the ECA forms to the administration office, please do so by the 5th of February 2014. ECA’s form an integral part of the marks at the end of year and it is therefore necessary for students to take part. If ECA forms are failed to be submitted children will be allocated to clubs and associations from the ECA list.

ECAs will begin after the Chinese New Year holidays, on Monday, 10 February. Please take note of the days your child/children will be involved in an ECA and the respective times they will be released from school, so that the necessary arrangements can be made with the respective transporters. All children should be picked up before 5pm.

Sri Ara Fun Run

This year we will kick start the sports calendar with our annual Sri Ara Fun Run, a mini cross country race which will be held on Saturday, 15 February. A supervised trial run at the venue will be arranged by the school on Thursday, 13 February. Students will be ferried by bus to the venue on Wednesday at 8.30am and back to school by 10.30am. They will have to wear their PE attire and comfortable running shoes. Further details will be communicated by the house teachers to the students.

Chinese New Year Break

The Chinese Lunar New Year will fall on Friday, 31 January and Saturday, 1 February. The school will be closed from Wednesday, 29 January to Tuesday, 4 February. School will resume on Wednesday, 5 February. We would like to wish a Happy & Prosperous 2014, Gong Xi Fa Cai to those who will be celebrating and ushering the Year of the Horse.

Fees

Please be reminded that first term fees were due by the middle of December 2013. If you still have not settled the fees kindly do so as soon as possible. A 5% surcharge will apply for late payment.

Restricted Access

We would like to remind parents to observe the restricted access to the school premises, from 8.00 am to 3.00 pm, Mondays to Thursdays; and 8.00 am to 2.50 pm on Fridays. For parents who would like to send children’s books, lunches, etc., please leave them at the office with your child’s name clearly marked on the package.

Any appointments with teachers or staff of the school should be made through the administration office. Your cooperation is much appreciated.

School Canteen

We would like to thank Ms. Celyn for stepping in at the end of last term to help with the canteen. With effect from this year, we are very fortunate to have a parent, Chef Salim and his wife come in to run the school canteen. Chef Salim is the owner of a restaurant, Pudina and he has spent many years abroad in UK and Switzerland as a chef.

Reception/Pre School

Due to strong demand, we have opened the reception/preschool classes this year. For further information please contact Mr. Aziz from marketing and business development.

IGCSE 2013 Results

The results are out and we woud like to congratulate our students who have done well, especially Muhammad Farhad Alam who scored 2 A*, 5 As and 2 B and Nanoko Takano with 2Bs and 3Cs.

Thank you for your continued support of the school.
